Masterchef…final immunity challenge.

Georgia, Jessica and Sara have a chance to win the pin immunity pin on offer this season.

First off they have to make something sweet to go with a cup of tea.  But they only have 30 minutes and the winner goes up for immunity.

Georgia decides to base her biscuit on a Monte Carlo.  Sara decides on scones.  Jessica isn’t keen on it being a sweet challenge and is making a burnt butter friand.  Georgia’s busy mixing her biscuits and Marco grabs a bit of the mixture out to taste, never mind she’s trying to stir madly.

Jessica puts a raspberry into her friand mix and it starts to sink, oh well.  Sara’s only made scones once before, oh dear.  Georgia gets her biscuits out of the oven and wants to cool them quickly and wants to put them in the freezer, but Marco’s not keen on that idea as it will make them chewy and he likes crunchy biscuits, not that she’s that concerned.

Jessica checks the friands and they’re cooked on top, but a bit gooey inside, too bad, she takes them out of the oven.  Sara’s scones aren’t brown enough so they’re back into the oven.  Georgia plates up her biscuits with jam, a strawberry and whipped cream.  Sara’s scones still aren’t brown enough but there’s no time, she has to assemble them.

The judges start having their cups of tea with a minute to go.

Time’s up…Jessica is up first with burnt butter friand with raspberry crème fraiche.  Gary loves them as does Shannon.  Marco thinks it’s not cooked to perfection because of the raspberry being in it.

Sara is up next with fig, date and walnut scones.  Matt says there’s been a terrible history of scones in the Masterchef kitchen, but they’re the best scones they’ve ever had in the Masterchef kitchen and she’s slightly shocked, but he says they needed a little bit more time to cook through.  Marco says he likes his scones with jam and cream, but he would have one of those with his cup of tea.

Georgia is up last with Georgia’s Monte Carlo made with a coconut biscuit.  Gary’s licking his fingers.  Matt loves that the biscuit is chewy in the middle and crunchy on the outside and says that Georgia is a genius with biscuits and they are brilliant.  Marco thought they were delicious.  Georgia wins and gets to cook for the immunity pin and has an advantage in the next challenge.

For immunity Georgia has to cook against Shannon…oh heck!!  There’s a special pantry for them today with a selection of 20 ingredients and they get to choose which 10 they’re cooking with and Marco will remain in the kitchen while they’re cooking.  Georgia chooses first, Marco tells her to think of a dish first, but she’s all confused so she just chooses ingredients.  She chooses lemon, chicken, celery, miso, eggs (because Marco says there are none in the under bench pantry), banana shallots, dill, leeks, marron and blackberries.  That leaves Shannon with the remaining ingredients, Tonka beans, ricotta, mastic, John Dory, curry leaves, Thai basil, coconut cream, broken rice, figs and chicory and he jokes about leaving the fish out to torture the judges with the worst dish they’ve ever had.

Georgia decides to do something with chicken, she wants to poach the chicken and removes the skin and Marco questions her on it.  Shannon starts cooking and decides to use the fish.  Georgia decides to cook the marron and now decides to do a marron dish, she’s all confused, well honey so are we.  Shannon gets on to making a fish stock.  Georgia tells Marco she’s doing marron, not chicken and Marco tells her the best way to braise celery.  Shannon fries the curry leaves, which he’s never done before, but likes how they turn out.  The marron is cooked and Georgia tries to get it out of the shell, but has difficulty with it and makes a mess of it.  Then makes lemon mayonnaise and starts plating with 8 minutes to go.  Marco suggests that she still use the chicken skin as the judges will love it.

5 minutes to go and Shannon’s in a mad rush to finish his dish.

Georgia’s finished and her dish looks great and she thinks that Shannon’s dish looks great.

The first dish in for tasting is Georgia’s marron with blackberries and celery and Matt notices the chicken skin straight away and Gary notices the messed up marron.  Gary and George love how tasty it is and George especially loves the chicken skin.  Matt loves the braised celery.

Then Shannon’s dish, roast John Dory with figs and a bitter basil sauce, gets tasted.  When George is cutting it up they notice the issues that Shannon had with removing the skin from the fish.  George loves the dish and that he’s never had that combination of flavours before, same with Gary.

Scoring time…Georgia’s scores are first Gary gives her 8/10, George gives her 8/10 and Matt gives her 9/10 giving her 25/30.  Shannon gets 8/10 from Gary, 9/10 from George and 9/10 from Matt giving him 26/30, so Georgia doesn’t win immunity.  Georgia can’t believe she still gets the advantage in the next challenge.
