Masterchef…I’m living in the 70’s.

Hang on…there are mystery boxes but they all contain different things…each has six portions of the same ingredient…like blue cheese or lemon or other such things.

They can swap up to 5 of their ingredients and can accept or reject trades and the pantry and garden are off limits but they have staples.

Poor Renae has sage, but nobody wants it…poor love…she ends up getting beetroot and blue cheese as Sarah feels guilty.

Tasting time…first is Renae with sage and blue cheese tart with roasted beetroot and crispy sage.  George says she had the most difficult ingredients and did a great job.  Matt loves the pastry.

Amy’s next with radicchio fennel and walnut tortellini…George loves what she’s done.  Gary says it is beautiful.  Matt says it is perfect.

Finally it is time for Brent with fennel, beetroot and pear salad and paneer…Matt likes the flavours but the paneer has a strange texture, it is very crumbly.

Amy won as her dish was perfection.

For the next challenge Amy has to choose the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s in a re-invention test.  The 60’s dish is prawn cocktail, the 70’s dish is apricot chicken and the 80’s dish is nuevelle cuisine with a tiny beef fillet, tiny bit of potato and jus.

She chooses the 70’s….Emilia hates meat and fruit together.

So we’ve got stuffed chicken, curried chicken, money bags, Indian spiced marinated chicken…a full variety going on.  But 10 minutes to go and Tracey’s got raw chicken and Laura’s resembles the original dish…now she’s having a moment in the pantry and George is trying to save her.

Tasting time…Amy is first with chicken and apricot curry with crispy chicken skin.  George is speechless, then goes on to talk and say how delicious and spectacular it is.

Next is Sarah…squid ink and tamarind chicken with apricot chutney and rice.  Matt has some strange facial expressions going on…and the music is getting louder and louder…oh look an ad break before anyone talks…oh finally we’re back and there’s still no words.  Then George says “honestly I hate it”…he thinks it should have been a little bit of the chicken and shouldn’t have had a pile of rice in a ring.

Laura…cumin and thyme apricot chicken with polenta and the poor love is scared…so she should be.  Gary says it is playing with his mind as there’s apricot chicken and croutons and polenta and it is strangely delicious and Matt says it is inspired with the bits she added at the end.

Emilia…chicken oysters with apricot jus…Gary says it is pretty but there is nothing that says it is apricot chicken as he’s getting no sweetness from it.

Jamie…quinoa, chicken and apricot puree…Matt likes it.

Brent…apricot jelly and chicken salad.

Renae…chicken curry served as a salad…not overly enjoyed by the judges.

Ben…apricot chicken with spinach and stuffed rice…well the rice ball held together when it was fried.  George says the sauce was beautiful and sweet and he has a lot more adjectives for it.

Tracey…apricot stuffed chicken with cous cous and apricot chutney…Gary’s happy she’s wearing the pin as the chicken is overcooked.

Results time…the top 3 are Amy, Laura and Ben.

The bottom 3 are…Sarah, Emilia and Tracey….and if Tracey plays the immunity pin then it means that Renae goes into the elimination challenge.
