Masterchef elimination…blind tasting

So the contestants walk in and face a blind tasting….literally blind with blindfolds and all of the up for elimination contestants having time to touch, smell and taste the dish, then remove blindfold and have 2 minutes to write down as many ingredients as possible…and yes it looked as scary as it sounded.

The number of ingredients they got right they get to cook with in round 2 with 45 minutes to cook.  Amy has 15 ingredients to use…she has the most to use and some with less things to use are rather concerned and stressed.

Oh and only one contestant, Colin, listed butter as an ingredient…and they’re making the most of having access to it.

Mind you Sean’s making eggless pasta….and suddenly realises there’s not enough time and it won’t work…good thing he changed his mind.

Oh no…there’s a major burn now…Kira has burnt her hand quite badly…poor love.

Now there’s raw chicken with 2 minutes to go…oh hell Colin it’s an elimination!!!

Time’s up…thank God for that!

Colin is up first with his chicken dish and is asked if it is cooked, or if it is overcooked…George thinks it’s a cracker and Matt thinks it is the best dish that Colin has made so far and he only used 10 ingredients.

Up next is Kira with her throbbing burnt hand.  She made grilled prawns with a spicy tomato and kransky sauce.  George thinks the prawns were cooked well but the rest of the dish has no technique and Gary says she needs to hope that someone else puts out a dodgier dish than hers.

Sam made char-grilled prawns with chilli salt, but Gary can’t taste the chilli salt.

Amy made a seafood broth and George says it is full of flavour.

Tash did char-grilled prawns as well with okra and Gary loves it.

Gerogia did a rolled chicken, but George tastes a lot of raw garlic.

Rachael made a tomato soup with prawns and Gary says he was concerned because of the kransky in it as he doesn’t enjoy kransky with seafood, he likes the prawns and says the not-great kransky permeates through the dish.  Matt thinks the kransky is Rachael and the dish reflects who she is…I have to say I like that.

Brent had only 9 ingredients and made char-grilled prawns with a salsa and oysters with a jalapeno reduction…poor Gary is struggling with all the jalpeno as it is in the reduction and the salsa…poor George has the napkin on his head and is really in struggle town.  Poor George can only say that it is too hot!!!

Sean is up and he’s worried as he made prawn and chilli sugo with flat breads….oh no George’s prawn is overcooked and Matt’s flatbread is undercooked and Gary says there’s no flavour in it.

Decision time…even though the worst dish goes home they decide to tell us the standout dishes…first up is Rachael and then Colin.

The bottom three dishes where Brent, Sean and Kira…no surprises there.  Brent is saved through the prawn and the onions, where the chilli nearly sent him out the door…we’re left with Sean and Kira.  Kira did less than Sean so she made less mistakes which means that Sean is going home.

Sean’s now working in a restaurant.
