Masterchef…dessert degustation

I hate to say it but the last part of this episode clashes with State of Origin and sorry boys and girls but there will be some seriously flicking going on then…it’s all about priorities.

MMMMM a 4 course dessert degustation…oh how I would love to be tasting these dishes…especially Darren Purchese desserts.

The first course is an edible centrepiece to decorate the table and the final course has to feature a hot element.

First course must include carrot.  Second course must include thyme.  Third course must include ginger and the fourth course must include blue cheese…oh and the cloche was edible.

They have 2½ hours before the centrepiece must be set to go at 8:45, course 4 must go out at 10:30….oh dear lord fun, fun, fun.

The red team are using carrot cake pops to have the carrots in course one as they’re making a garden complete with chocolate “soil” and green coloured coconut “grass”…then they want to make 2 feet tall trees, but there’s a saga with them.  Then they do a grass mound…oh I’m concerned slightly.  Oh what a shame the trees aren’t working with only minutes before the customers arrive.

The blue team is going footprints in the garden for their centrepiece theme….um okay.

The red team is worried as they think the blue team’s centrepiece is more refined than their centrepiece.  Even Matt mentions that the difference between the teams is immense.

Course 2 for red team is thyme and black pepper crumb with cream cheese and poached apricot…but they’re worried so they add thyme salt to it…good thing they decided to do a test taste of it, but the biscuit is too thick…so they decide to trim them in half.  Then they decide with 20 minutes to make an olive oil jelly….oh dear the crumb isn’t enjoyed as it isn’t the same as the biscuit.

Thyme and apricot pannacotta with chocolate soil and lemon poached apricots, but they think the pannacotta is too set….no good with less than 15 minutes to go.  The pannacotta is up for interpretation.  Gary thinks they should have simplified the dish.

Oh no…channel surfing time.

Blue team’s course 3 is ginger crumb, soft chocolate mousse and ginger ice chip on top….then they get out the liquid nitrogen…that’s what I’m talking about.

Red team’s course 3 has liquid nitrogen as well…oh yes, yes, yes…and they’re plating in front of everyone with the liquid nitrogen…oh hell, after the first plate there are issues with the sorbet…it’s all gone hard.

Gary loves the blue dish and they love the theatre of the red’s dish, minus the sagas of course.

Course 4 is…

The red team’s jelly buggered up…oh well.

The blue team made pear, grape and lavender cigar and a blue cheese mousse….Gary needs something to balance it out.

The red team made red wine-poached pear with blue cheese cream and red wine syrup.  Matt likes the combination.

The red team’s 4th dish is dish of the day…however the blue team is the winning team.
