My Kitchen Rules…Another night of tears

Tonight we’re off to the mum’s in Adelaide…after last night’s saga in Tasmania…and of course we start with the emotional welcome home with the kids and the hubbies and squealing and hugging.

Whilst cooking they’ve made the stock and put some in the tray with the pig’s cheeks…then somehow while putting dishes in the dishwasher one of the mums has poured the rest of the stock down the drain…thinking the jug was dirty…oh dear, time for the packet stock to come out as it is still needed for multiple dishes.

Nothing like Little Misses Posh to straight out say that they want the mums out of the competition in front of the others…gee no holding back ladies.

Entrée 1 – Stuffed sardines and orange reduction.  This is chosen by The Dads and Pete.  All the teams that ordered the eggplants are looking at the sardines with jealousy.  Pete thinks the dish is almost perfection, but the sardines were slightly over-cooked.

Entrée 2 – Eggplant and haloumi fritters.  This is chosen by Little Misses Posh, The Twins, The BFF’s and Manu.  Little Misses Posh aren’t impressed that the fritters are merely slices of eggplants with haloumi in the middle, then crumbed and fried.  Manu thought it was simple and nice, and hopes he is amazed by the rest of the courses.  Little Misses Posh are shocked, nothing more to be said by them.

Main 1 – Chicken Mole with Mexican rice and plantains…nothing like Pete saying he hopes they don’t fancy up the meal when he reads the menu.  This is chosen by Little Misses Posh, The Twins, The BFF’s, The Dads and Pete.  Most of the teams are hoping it’s not chicken breast in this dish…oh well they won’t be happy as it is chicken breast cooked to order, in saying that though they would normally do it braised on the bone cooked in the sauce…seriously why change what obviously works.  I agree with the mums that the dish looks wrong on the plate, but then again how can you make it look good given what it is???  Little Misses Posh have the faces that say it all and everyone thinks they should have gone the pig’s cheeks as it looks a lot more appetising to them.  Pete loved the plantains and surprise, surprise he was expecting rustic, not what was served to him and thinks the sauce wasn’t great as it was like a chocolate sauce and not sauce with a hint of chocolate and thinks that the dish has lot the soul of what it should be.

Main 2 – Braised pig’s cheek with wet polenta.  This is chosen by Manu.  Pete is shocked that none of the teams chose the pig’s cheeks.  Manu thinks it is simple food cooked well and he loved pretty much everything on the plate and thinks there is lots of love in the dish.

Dessert 1 – Roasted peaches with mascarpone ice-cream…there’s concerns that the ice-cream isn’t sweet enough, too late to realise that after it has been made into ice-cream.  This is chosen by The Dads and Pete.  Oh dear…as the mums notice Pete struggles to get his spoon into the peach.  Pete says it was tricky to eat, but it was something simple that was elevated and he’s happy that the ice-cream wasn’t too sweet.

Dessert 2 – Flan de café with coconut and star anise churros…when reading this Manu thinks it sounds like two desserts on one plate.  This is chosen by The Twins, The BFF’s, Little Misses Posh and Manu.  I’m sorry ladies, but I agree with you that the flans don’t look great when they come out of their dishes…and they cause one of the mums to go and have a few minutes to have a teary.  Manu thinks the flan de café is unbelievable and he really enjoyed everything on the plate which surprises the mums, but he continues on to say he enjoyed it all, but not together.

BFFs – 4

The Twins – 5

The Dads – 6

Little Misses Posh – 4

Pete – entrée 7, main 4, dessert 9.

Manu – entrée 6, main 10, dessert 8.

Giving them a total score of…63 and putting them in second place…meaning the BFF’s are still on the bottom of the ladder.

Tomorrow we’re off to the last instant restaurant of this round…The Twins.  But the preview shows one of the twins having a breakdown while they are cooking…and taking off in the car…but tomorrow either the Twins or the BFF’s will be eliminated.
